the review
We were very excited about the opening of Morimoto Asia at the newly renamed Disney Springs. We eat a lot of Asian foods at home, and so to have that sort of quality restaurant expected of Disney and Disney Springs producing a new flavor of Asian food seemed like a win!
The restaurant is beautifully themed, with modern touches to the inside and a outside decor that perfectly fits the new Disney Springs areas, but still giving the building its own character. The entrance is huge, ceilings up above the second floor giving it a large atrium feeling. Checking for our reservation was smooth, and we were quickly taken to our table. The kitchen wall is glass; you can see everything going on inside, but not the noise that you normally get from sitting close to a kitchen restaurant. The table setting is clean and efficient, continuing the modern theme.
We stuck with orders of water this trip, saving our budget for the food. We both agreed to try the morimoto peking duck, nicely priced in at $27 per person (its a table dish), and an order of fried rice. After seemingly forever, our food arrived. The duck was nicely done, juicy, seasoned to perfection, and tasted fantastic. Pair it with the sweet chili sauce included with it, the dish was divine.
However, after dropping $54 for the both of us on the duck alone, you would think it would be more filling, especially with our side order for fried rice. This review is short and sweet because there was one major flaw in the experience. When we left, we proceeded to find more food. You could say we went in with too little of a budget for this restaurant, but when I go to a restaurant and spend $50+ on food for 2, I expect to leave the restaurant without the need to eat some more.
We do plan on revisiting the restaurant for try #2. This time, we will skip the duck.
